Collaborations
COLLABORATIONSFrom Hawaiian brands to hotels, artists and local governments: a selection of past collaborations.
The light of Hawaii, the brush of ukiyo-e, stories in paint.
SHINGIIIIII paints the light of Hawaii, the memory of Japan and the streets of Paris as ukiyo-e stories — in sumi ink and acrylic.
Born in Tokyo, he began sumi-e painting around the age of twenty.
He painted live on the streets of Harajuku,
and at the national ink-painting exhibition Contemporary Ink: A Challenge 2000,
he received an Encouragement Award.
He pursued music as a vocalist and a creator,
before the landscapes of Hawaii
inspired him to focus on painting.
Ukiyo-e Banashi layers sumi ink and acrylic.
Each title plays with the sounds and meanings of kanji.
Hokusai-like waves rise on the North Shore,
while sailing boats float on the Seine.
From Tokyo, Okinawa and Hawaii to Paris and the world.
Born in Tokyo in 1973, SHINGIIIIII took up sumi-e (Japanese ink painting) at around age twenty and painted live on the streets of Harajuku. A vocalist and music producer since 1999, he shifted his focus to painting in 2020, inspired by the landscapes of Hawaii. His “Ukiyo-e Banashi” series layers sumi ink and acrylic, pairing Hokusai-like waves and Mt. Fuji with Diamond Head and the Eiffel Tower, and gives each work a playful kanji title.
